DRX FGC’s Moonsup ‘LeShar’ Shin achieved a remarkable 3rd place finish at the CAPCOM CUP 1, which took place from March 5th to 9th, leaving a significant mark on the history of the Korean fighting games community. This result makes LeShar the first Korean player to secure a spot in the 2025 Esports World Cup (EWC), which will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia later this year.
The CAPCOM CUP is one of the most prestigious fighting game tournaments, hosted by Capcom, the developer of the 'Street Fighter' series. Every year, top-tier players from around the world compete in fierce battles at this event. In this year's competition, LeShar achieved a group stage record of 4 wins and 1 loss, advancing to the winner's bracket as the top player in his group. He defeated Japan's 'Fudo' and 'JuicyJo' in the winner's quarterfinals and semifinals respectively, advancing to the winner's bracket final. Although he was defeated in both the winner’s bracket final and the loser’s bracket final, he ultimately secured 3rd place and won a prize pool of $50,000 USD (approximately 72 million Korean Won).
Through his performance at CAPCOM CUP 11, LeShar also earned a spot in the finals of the 'Street Fighter 6' category at EWC 2025. EWC is the largest global competition where top esports clubs from around the world compete. 'Street Fighter 6' has been chosen as an official event again this year, following its selection in 2023. Having made his pro debut with 'Street Fighter 6' in June 2023, LeShar - a fighting game prodigy - has shown rapid growth in less than two years. Expectations are high to see how he will perform at EWC 2025.
LeShar made a meteoric rise in international competitions, placing 5th at CAPCOM CUP 10 last year. He also showcased impressive gameplay at EWC 2024 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, ultimately finishing in the Top 9, solidifying his status as a global player.
Sun Il Yang, CEO of DRX, stated, “LeShar's third-place finish at Capcom Cup 11 is his personal best, and his achievement as the fastest Korean to secure a spot in EWC 2025 is not just an individual accomplishment, but a significant milestone for the advancement of Korean fighting game esports.” He continued, “DRX will continue to discover and support world-class players like LeShar, and we will strive to elevate Korea’s status in the global esports scene. We also plan to participate in more diverse events at EWC 2025 and achieve excellent results.”
Global premier esports and gaming group DRX gained international recognition in 2022 after creating the 'Jungkkeokma' (meaning 'An unbreakable spirit') phenomenon, winning the League of Legends World Championship (Worlds).
